What is Botox?
There are many types of anti-wrinkle treatments.
Perhaps the most popular and well-known of which is Botox (botulinum toxin).
Some of the brands that are approved by the FDA in the UK are; Azzalure, Bocouture and Botox. At the Collagen Therapy Clinic, we only use these FDA-approved injections and Katy is trained to the highest standard in the most up-to-date techniques.
Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxic protein that prevents the release of the neurotransmitter ‘acetylcholine’, causing localised, temporary relaxation of the chosen muscles.
Botulinum Toxin can also be used for migraines, muscle spasticity, muscle disorders and excessive sweating. More commonly, it is used for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons, to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. It is estimated hundreds of thousands of people in the UK have this procedure each year, most coming back every few months for their ‘top up’.
In cosmetic applications, botulinum toxin injections are considered safe and effective for the reduction of facial wrinkles. The effects typically last 2-4 months, with some clients reporting the effects lasting 6 months or more.
Injection of Botulinum Toxin into the muscles underneath the chosen wrinkled area causes the relaxation of those muscles, resulting in the appearance of smoother skin. The results can be visible 2-14 days after treatment, depending on the type of product used, and the technique of the clinician, and is different in each person. Both men and women are able to have this treatment, and many more men are becoming fans.
Side effects of treatment are very rare and are lessened further if you choose a suitably experienced and qualified practitioner.
